To respond to some of your stuff below, I do think there are confusions in some R and H shows (and not just in theirs, of course).
For instance, when Curly enters in Oklahoma! it seems like he's improvising "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'." But later the neighbors show up at Eller and Laurey's singing it, as if it's a song that everyone knows, and then they sing it again at the end of the show.
And what about "June Is Bustin' Out All Over"? It does not seem diegetic, but later when it's reprised, it kind of does seem diegetic. |
