As with the previous responders, I’m always thankful to have a script available so I know I won’t have to worry about getting a quote right while scribbling in the dark. (Though I never read a script in advance because I found that it sets up a false expectation – how cold any performance live up to the one I imagine as I read.)
I generally jot down quick keywords that I know will trigger my memory when I look at them later. Then I fill out my notes as soon as I get home. I used to write the review the same night, but found that I do a better job if I wait till morning (Thanks, coffee.), plus sleeping on it helps me to identify the moments that are most significant. 90% of the time, the first paragraph comes to me in the shower. |
