From what I've read, this movie has been a passion project of Hugh Jackman's since 2009. The only other biopic of P.T. Barnum that I can think of starred Wallace Beery, so why not a new look at the man who reportedly coined the term "show business."

The trailer looks like the movie will be a colorfully spun tale treating some admirable themes including bouncing back after losing a job, thinking like a visionary and celebrating our differences. The circus scenes look lushly filmed. I happened to like the look and feel of "Moulin Rouge." Some may find all that cheesy, but I think family audiences will appreciate it.
