| Matthew Jacobs of the Huffington Post agrees with your initial assessment: ''For some reason, the trailer hardly lets on that “The Greatest Showman” is a musical, beyond a few shots of characters dancing and a corny ballad that serenades the proceedings.'' Grace Randoph of Beyond the Trailer: ''I am so nervous for Hugh Jackman. Why? Because he spent all his Wolverine capital ... on this musical.'' She says the trailer gives an ''awfully positive, modern spin on the circus.'' As a showman best-known for his hoaxes and ''freaks'' (and as onetime producer of minstel shows), it's unlikely that Barnum back then envisioned circuses as a salute to one's individuality (''Everyone is special''). Randolph also believes this musical will have a tough time at Christmastime. She adds: ''I almost actually prefer 'La La Land' to this because it was at least different, even tho' I was not a fan of that film either.'' (She does acknowledge ''La La Land'' did $400 million worldwide, which was ''amazing.'') |
