No spoiler, but why is the true life incident in the middle of NAPOLI, BROOKLN being kept secret? (The DISGRACED debate)

I've figured out what the event that's talked around is, which seems to be a major plot point, if an externally applied one. Does the shock value help the production? Serve the storytelling? It's an incident that is fairly well known in NYC, though not talked about much in 2017, admittedly (which helps the show ... how? Not being referenced?). The board has featured several threads detailing how disturbing the effects are. What does a naturalistic piece like this play gain from such secrecy? Apparently the incident isn't organic to the characters. But I say "apparently."

If anyone has thoughts, and wants to discuss with "SPOILER," please do. This invites a bigger discussion about spoilers in general. I recall when the NY Times revealed the central shocker in DISGRACED -- and via a photograph that accompanied the review.
