| My theory (absolutely unsubstantiated by any evidence) is that, desperate to get a host, the producers acceded to various contract demands by Spacey that included certain bits (including the Darin embarrassment) that could not be cut, and a large amount of artistic control. Nothing else makes sense to me. |
