I agree that there is much in the movie that is wonderful, Louis Armstrong of course, but all the other wonderfulness is Miss Streisand and of course the Jerry Herman songs. Not fer nuttin did Pauline Kael vote Barbra Streisand Best Actress of the year(in the event the Award went to Vanessa Redgrave for LOVES OF ISADORA); Last comment- In the scene where Dolly ' says.we're all fools aren't we' etc,Miss Steisand is perfection & it leads into "Before the Parade Pases By", and then SLAM!: the loudest, Brightest, Blaringest, Parade Ever. They hired every extra in Hollywod , used every drop of sunshine in Southern Cal, And I'm told they rented 10 Tons of sunshine from the Phillipines. IMO, Miss Streisand was almost the only right thing in the film. But nothing in the flick can compare to the wondrous entertainment at NYC's Shubert theater!
