I saw a really interesting production at Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It began in a bureaucratic conference room, which a group of Latina women had come to clean. Before long, they reached into their bags and came up with instruments. Turns out that they were an all-female mariachi band, and they used this position to provide both music and commentary on this play about urban sexual politics. It's still a problem play, but the audacity of the director's move made the point in and of itself.
