Gotta disagree... I find just about everything in the film better than what's on at the Shubert. I think the script is much improved, the score sounds incredible, the cast is all better - all the leads and the notable supporting roles... the choreography is so much better, the costumes even better than at the Shubert (I find the ones there comically bright, not in a good way), the acting, the singing the dancing the staging the sets, the costumes, the script... everything.

I think Carol is still the best, but besides that there's very little that I don't think is as good or better in the movie. Barbra is perfect but for her age (I always say she looks mid 30's for sure, but she should realistically play at least mid 40s or even 50), and other than a few mistakes like the insanely extended and silly Waitor's Gallop and the too-large Harmonia Gardens, and some choices that I think hurt the moments of/into "Before the Parade Passes By"... and I rather enjoy that the plot ends up in a courthouse for disturbing the peace and the stenographer cueing the line "I'll go slow so you can get it all down", rather than in a park after the chaos at the restaurant just ends. But besides those minor things, I think the movie is an improvement on the stage show as written and probably the best production of the material we'll ever see. That Michael Kidd choreography especially. I think "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" is the perfect example of what the movie does SO well and what is lacking in the stage production at the Shubert.
