| I'm surprised you even thought of three British actresses as possible Dollys (Dollies!), since I can't see that character as remotely British at all. The subject of who else might have been good in the DOLLY! movie comes up frequently, and I think there's general agreement that none of the women who might have been great in the role were considered big enough stars to carry a film like that, and the women who were big enough stars were really not right for the part in one way or another. So they got Streisand, who was one of the biggest new stars of the day and was also right for the role in at least some ways if not in others. |
