I couldn't agree with you more bmc. Whether you liked her or not as Dolly, what other actress at the age of twenty seven could've possibly pulled off the role? For that reason alone, I thought she was quite remarkable as Dolly. And it was wonderful hearing her exquisite voice singing the score. And eeew! As far as Ball doing it, I can only imagine her in those beautiful costumes spitting out chewing tobacco onto the streets of New York as she croaked out, "Has The Parade Passed Me By?"
I know she would never be cast as Dolly but as a Midler replacement I'd love to see Jackie Hoffman as Dolly. She was friggin' hilarious on Andy Cohen's show last week and she can sing. |
