Actually while Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon, the writers of "Adam's Rib" wrote Holliday's role as a showcase for her, in addition star Katharine Hepburn agreed that Holliday would be filmed during their big scene together in a way that put the focus on Judy, not on Kate. They were all pulling for Judy to get to play "Born Yesterday" on screen, and the ploy worked.

Channing would have been great as Dolly on screen with the right director -- she never would have played Dolly as she played Muzzy in "Millie"; while Carol's Dolly was colorful character grounded in reality, Muzzy was an out-and-out goofball/screwball.
