But I'm not sure even Day would have been trusted with Dolly's budget by 1967-68, when the film was being prepared: Dolly cost $25 million, an eye-popping figure at the time, and none of Day's previous films had cost--or grossed--anything remotely like that. Well, pretty clearly she wasn't trusted with that budget, because they must have thought of her, and it's hard to see what else the objection could have been. |
