| Shirley Booth did a musical called "Look to the Lillies" a few years later so I think she could have put over Dolly's score as she was a brilliant singing comedienne -- listen to her "Look Who's Dancing" or "He Had Refinement" in "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". Barbra Streisand aside, Dolly doesn't require that big a range -- plus Carol Channing's notes weren't exactly pristine, regardless of wherever they lay in the musical spectrum. |
