David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's ''Here Lies Love'' recently closed after a 2-month run (and extension) at Seattle Repertory Theatre.
Jaygee Macapugay, Mark Bautista and Conrad Ricamora starred, directed by Alex Timbers, and it received rave reviews.
It originally was announced as a co-production with A.C.T. in San Francisco, but it pulled out last November. (Boo!)
In Seattle, many seats of the 850-seat capacity Bagley Wright Theatre were taken out, to accommodate a disco for about 250.
David Korins, the award-winning set designer, created a two-level seating gallery that surrounded the dance floor.
Korins told American Theatre: ''Now that we’ve cracked that code, I have high hopes it could find its way back to New York in a proscenium, eventually a Broadway venue. We can now theoretically use the balcony, hook, line, and sinker, as it is. Isn’t that exciting? You heard it here first.”
I saw ''Here Lies Love'' many times at the Public, and I'd love to see this dynamic disco show shake its booty on Broadway.
