That's my only point. She would've fit comfortably into the trappings, and post "Molly Brown..." been a not illogical choice. The film is big and colorful and a lot of fun. Reynolds would not be ideal, but she would be appropriate. She would have been 40ish, to Streisand's 28.

It's all a parlor game, but the film with Reynolds would have made base line sense. People positing Sally Ann Howes and even Maureen O'Hara (in 1969?) seem to know nothing about the movie business. Picturing executives putting all that money into the enormous film, saying "we can get ... Sally Ann Howes!" makes me giggle.
