| The name Ernestina comes from Wilder, where Dolly makes up someone named Ernestina Simple. in Hello, Dolly! she gives the name Ernestina Money to Vandergelder in the second scene (their first scene together). This is in both the published script and the licensed script (which do have some differences from each other). Presumably, she's already thinking that she will ask Ernestina to show up at the Harmonia Gardens. |
