I accompanied June Bronhill late in her life, and despite her age and debilitating tinnitus, this song was one of the highlights of her act. The last lines she sang then were:
Dark is the night and wild is the weather.
Woman and man grow closer together.
Cynics can laugh and say love is a lie,
But the heart is a call that a woman will never
Deny!
I don't have the score or the script (the sheet music I played from is probably buried in some box in my backyard shed), but that's certainly what I hear June singing on the cast recording as well. |
