Yes, Mulhare's extensive history in the role (which I tend to assume, perhaps wrongly, that everyone here knows about at least generally) is why I noted that Rogers and Mulhare had never played the roles together before 1977 (at least not to my knowledge). He also played weekends for a time during Harrison's original run, which must have been very frustrating for audiences who had been expecting to see Harrison when they bought their tickets.
And he went on the 1960 Russian tour, for which they had alternates for Eliza (Lola Fisher and either Mary Sue Berry or Gaylea Byrne or perhaps they ended up with three alternating Elizas) and Higgins (the other Higgins was Michael Evans, and it seems that John Cunningham also played some performances). |
