In reply to: Olivia de Havilland feuding with Ryan Murphy / FX - SidL 09:36 pm EDT 06/30/17

Gee, what a coincidence. Voting for the Emmy nominations just ended several days ago.

They will be announced July 13, and many pundits expect ''Feud'' to rack up a record number of nominations.

Back in April, the Hollywood Reporter reached DeHavilland to get her reaction to ''Feud'' and, in particular, the episode re-creating the 1963 Oscars, in which she was quite prominent. DeHavilland said she hadn't seen the show, but ''in principle, I am opposed to any representation of personages who are no longer alive to judge the accuracy of any incident depicted as involving themselves. As to the 1963 Oscar ceremony, which took place over half a century ago, I regret to say that I have no memory of it whatsoever and therefore cannot vouch for its accuracy.”

Ryan Murphy's reaction to DeHavilland's reply in April? “I love Olivia De Havilland. She is forever a lady,” Murphy told E! News. “My favorite part of the quote was she said that she couldn’t vouch for anything at the ‘63 Oscars because she couldn’t remember it. I love that it was such a little blip in her life! But she’s amazing and everything that she says and does should be treasured. I loved what she said.”

Frankly, I thought DeHavilland was depicted quite favorably in ''Feud,'' as a loyal friend to Bette Davis. If anything, ''Feud'' enhanced her reputation, and introduced her to new generations who might not have known her work. I'm also not sure I follow her reasoning here: ''In principle, I am opposed to any representation of personages who are no longer alive to judge the accuracy of any incident depicted as involving themselves.''

So movies, TV shows and plays shouldn't be allowed to depict public figures unless they're still alive and can judge their own depiction?

This coming from DeHavilland, who played the Queen Mother in the 1982 TV movie ''The Royal Romance of Charles and Diana.''

Which coincidentally is the topic of Murphy's next season of ''Feud.''
