| I think that she put herself in that situation. I know that she fought to get the role of Molly Brown, and I think she also campaigned for Mary, Mary. Truth is that she was so different from Tammy Grimes that she could not imitate her. But I think people have said over the years that she must have seen Bel Geddes and did imitate her. And she's not especially different from Bel Geddes as a type. I suspect at the time, people who had seen Bel Geddes found her a very pale imitation, but for me watching her without having seen Bel Geddes, she's fine. |
