| yes and no. We don't know the why but we can objectively look at the way this was handled and say that it is a fail. Producers have to control the narrative, and here they did not. Oak put out a (perhaps confusing) tweet in the first instance, and I believe Malloy has also tweeted. So the opportunity to "hold the announcement" for some (perhaps good) reason is moot; that ship has sailed. What's happening now is the (unavoidable in 2017) guessing about the back story. And while in some cases it does not matter, this is not a garden variety put-in: it's a critical one in a show that is losing its audience magnet at a time that folks are wondering if there is a snowball's chance in hell that the show has a post-Groban path. This story begs for a positive spin, and is spinning out of control. So yes, it is fair to say there is some incompetence on display based on something known to be true. |
