| You're right, it's probably not specific to ATC - this is pretty much the only message board I frequent, though. Maybe I hadn't had QUITE enough coffee this morning and came on a little stronger than I intended. ;) I DO love the discussions here at ATC. I don't post often, but I've been reading and lurking for the better part of a decade, and I don't want to seem like I'm coming out of nowhere to criticize the discussions happening. I'm not saying we shouldn't be allowed to speculate. Should we discuss this news item? Sure! By all means, it's a notable first replacement in a massive Broadway musical, and this is a place for discussing exactly this kind of topic. Was it a possibility that somebody wasn't prepared? Sure. Was the PR for this news handled well? Not really, you're right, it was pretty ambiguous, and Oak's tweet added to the mix of discussion. But I was turned off by the immediate NEGATIVE speculation, not just from Delvino, whose apology I noted below and give credit to. There are so, so many reasons this performance schedule could have been affected, and it just seems like we (as a group hive-mind, again I am NOT singling out Delvino here) so easily default to vitriol, and make bold, public assumptions when we truly aren't informed. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see others take (seeming) delight in what was probably a complicated situation for everybody involved at "The Great Comet." Maybe let's all just take a breath before we leap to conclusions, is all I'm saying. And on the plus side - I get a chance to see Dave Malloy play the role, hoping I can snag a ticket! |
