With Hepburn, the intention was to use her singing voice but it became all too clear that the results were less than satisfactory and Nixon was brought in as opposed to King & I where Nixon worked extensively with Kerr before filming. Hepburn supposedly threw a fit when she learned that her singing was out but returned and apologized to everyone.
With Natalie Wood in West Side Story, she recorded all of the songs, thinking they would use her voice but they were only doing this so she would learn the songs. I guess they used it for the playbacks during filming. Nixon was also recording the songs, unbeknownst to Wood, for the finished product. |
