| I do wonder how much we can really trust that list. Didn't Marni Nixon deny that she had dubbed anything for the film Gypsy film? Admittedly, the belief that Nixon sang at least a high note or two for Wood in Gypsy has been repeated a good deal (even the Library of Congress site used to say it), but I'm pretty sure it's wrong. It's been said that after her experience on West Side Story, Wood had it in her Gypsy contract that her vocals could not be replaced. I don't know whether that's true, but I do think it's all Wood in Gypsy. Some say that it's not Wood singing "Little Lamb" on the Warner Bros. LP. I don't know about that, but I'm pretty confident that in the film, it's all Wood. I even wonder if perhaps it was recorded live. It kind of sounds that way to me when I watch the film, and it also looks that way to me. If it wasn't recorded live, her lipsynching is very, very good. | |
