| UPDATE: I'm happy, if slightly red-faced, to report that critics, myself included, have indeed been invited to review Donna Murphy in Hello, Dolly! and that the reports here to the contrary were wrong. The issues I've outlined below remain important – perhaps more important than ever at a time when the ranks of critics are being diminished daily through cutbacks, layoffs and attrition, not to mention diversion to features-related material. Significantly, however, those are the problems of journalists and our publishers, and in the case of Hello, Dolly!, we will be able to do our jobs within the reasonably timely request of the producing team led by Scott Rudin, for which I'm thankful. |
