Wow. I had heard the title, but -- showing my ignorance here -- never knew it was associated with "Suddenly..." This obsession with cannibalism is quite a topic. As a stand-in for orality, and fetishized orality at that, it's a powerful image. Again, I'm curious as to what Dr. Kobie's sessions with Williams did to his creative psyche, as is Martin Sherman. A lot might be drawn from the de-programming aspect of Williams therapy, which Sherman illuminates as a big part of Kobie's goal: to stop Williams from "practicing" homosexuality. Being told you can't literally, uh, "eat," might inspire a wanton obsession with forbidden foods, as it were. Cheap, that, and I'm playing amateur shrink myself here, but not for the first time.
