Moron Mom probably spent a fortune on those premium tickets. Ha ha. Let's hope more uncultured fools who spend heaps of cash on tickets that could be sold for reasonable prices experience similar frustrations. Perhaps if the premium buyers stay away, true NY theatregoers won't have to shell out outlandish prices to see Broadway shows. Someone tell the casts of Hamilton and Dolly to follow Platt's lead! Good job Ben!

If premium buyers stay away, shows will go out of business. I bet this mom and many others would rather have the 2 hour 30 minute show be cut down to 2 hours, to make time for a photo op with their customers. If enough customers like her complain, I bet a mandatory stage door will soon be written into contracts. If this was such a hardship for this actor, he could have just posed for pictures without using his voice.

Broadway existed just fine without premium buyers, and it will exist just fine if premium buyers go away.

Let's restrict the creative process so people can get autographs and pictures.

It's not just his voice. It's the physical toll the show takes on him. How long does the stage door take? 30 minutes? Longer? He probably wants to unwind and then get to bed.

To add to that: it takes a tremendous amount of energy to be charming and cheerful and look upbeat in people's photos. No one wants to have a selfie with Ben Platt where he looks tired or emotionally wrecked; they want the dream Ben Platt, who is all smiles and graciousness.

That's a lot to ask from anyone who has to perform that track 8 times a week.

Also, it's just possible, too, that Ben Platt doesn't like or isn't comfortable doing the stage-door thing.

Not everyone does. Other actors leave through other entrances all the time, and that's their prerogative.

Others begrudgingly do the stage door, in promoting their show. And others revel in it, and enjoy meeting their fans.

Zachary Levi (''She Loves Me''), for one, even takes stage-dooring to another level: playing music to create a festive atmosphere. He'll sign every Playbill offered and graciously take the time to chit-chat. Then, Levi will go a second time down the line if there's anyone who wants a selfie.

Fuck that noise.

Equity would never go for it, thankfully.

I've heard talk of precisely the opposite-that AEA will ask for some means of controlling this awful ritual. From producers' standpoint, it's promotion, although many/most also have concerns about safety, health of their investments, etc.

Don't take the bait!

I can't help but wonder if the acknowledgement by Platt makes this a bigger story than it really would have been. He really didn't need to defend himself and could have easily blocked the user and removed her Tweet rather than dignifying her stupidity with a response. If this woman has friends, I'm sure they roll their eyes about her and her antics.

Diana McLaughlin might be getting the attention because she berated Ben Platt on Twitter, but she's not alone.

Others have posted on message boards, etc., about their disappointment and/or anger that Platt rarely stage-doors.

I imagine Platt's been feeling the heat from this, and besieged by criticisms of his absences during Tony weekend.

This might've been a tipping point, so Platt finally felt it was time to address it.
