Thanks Aaron for those kind words about New York.
I live down in Greenwich Village and the mish-mosh of winding streets can easily confused any visitor (even New Yorkers).
For years I would quietly approach people looking at maps with a confused expression and ask if they needed help. Many said no, but if they said yes I would show them where they were and explain how to go to where they wanted. Sometimes, if it was too complicated, I would take them to their destination.
Same thing on buses. I would explain where they should get off and which direction to walk.
Many of my friends told me they did the same thing.
Unfortunately with smart phones, it's hard to tell if someone's looking at a map or just trying to figure out whom to call.
So it's wonderful to read your comments about "Noo Yawkas". It's our pleasure to help visitors out. |
