I'm curious: does Mr. Sherman's essay take into account the curtain raiser that originally made up the other half (or more like a third) of Garden District, Something Unspoken in which Anne Meacham played a secretary/companion to a New Orleans matron (played by the same actress who played Violet) trying to convince her long term employer that there is something more between them than friendship? Would the audience be expected to accept the same actress to be the "truth teller" in the first scene, and an "unreliable witness" in the second?

It's always possible that the Lortel Archives have it wrong, but they say that Anne Meacham was only in Suddenly Last Summer in that production, and that Eleanor Phelps, the actress who played the companion in Something Unspoken, played Mrs. Holly in Suddenly last Summer.
