Selfies are part of the problem for a slightly different reason. They take a lot longer for the actor than signing. The youngsters don't want signatures; they want selfies. So the stage door thing takes a lot longer for actors nowadays than before. Plus, there are a LOT more people at the stage door than before social media.

The stage door at Dear Evan Hansen reminds me of the stage door at Hamilton. Both have a young, fanatic audience who can't afford the crazy current ticket prices, so there are HUNDREDS of people at the stage door after each performance, many, maybe most, of whom have never seen the show. If Ben Platt were to send out pre-signed Playbills, he'd have to pre-sign 200 - 300 for every performance.

I enjoy going to the stage door and talking to the actors, but I don't blame Platt (or anyone) for not wanting to deal with it.
