| What makes it a slow burn? I saw it and I remember that after the 2nd song I was fully into it, realizing it was less bubblegum and sacchraine than I expected and had a tunefulness and intelligence I was looking forward to continuing thorugh the show. Not a perfect show, not one the *great* musicals, but I think the most successful one this season after Great Comet and DEH... GC I consider a masterpiece, and DEH a moving piece with a wonderful score, both two of the best of the last decade at least... in a weaker season I think Bandstand would be a much bigger deal than it seems to be, especially considering it was shut out of so many Tony nominations. I would easily have nominated it for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book over Come From Away. |
