| I was hoping to leave her name unsaid here, but it was Jessica Lea Patty. At intermission everyone in my area of the theatre was talking about how she was "pitchy" and you had to "imagine a good singer in the role." This is especially the case because the character herself is supposed to be a great singer and is invited to join a band. That's the whole point of the character. People in the show are repeatedly making comments about her great voice. In a city like New York with dozens (hundreds?) of first-rate singing actresses, I don't understand how they can't fill the understudy role with someone who can sing it well. |
