I think Blythe Danner's singing voice is just about perfect for that role and that song in the film of 1776, and if the decision had been made to cast anyone in the movie who would have belted the song in the manner of Betty Buckley, the number would have been a disaster.
P.S. I don't agree that Danner's speaking voice had changed all that much between 1776 and FOLLIES. Of course it had changed somewhat, but I think the main difference is that in FOLLIES she was projecting in a theater. |
