| Watching the linked video of Sonya Alone (my favorite song from Natasha Pierre...) sung by both incomer Ingrid MIchelson and outgoer Brittain Ashford I am prompted to think it was kind of a STRANGE choice to make this one a duet for the both of them to sing promotionally. I get that it's marketing, but still - why not just release a version of Ingrid singing it? Part of the wonder of the song is that Sonya is, well, alone. So then I started thinking - any other weird clips out there of duets made of songs that were probably best left as solos? Some tucked away dual Rose's Turn with Bernadette and Patti? Being Alive with two Bobby's? Hope this isn't a verboten 'poll' - not asking for favorites, just contributions :) And of course maybe I'm just too attached to the song and others love it as a duet! |

| This isn't answering your question, more ranting about this odd video: Am I the only one who feels surprised that they made this, considering that it gives us a chance to compare the two women side by side. For me, they are mismatched; Brittain Ashford has the much stronger/interesting voice, and this video simply tells me to hold off on seeing the show until she's back in it in August. These producers keep making such terrible choices. (Is anyone else baffled by the newest ad campaign with the dancers in mostly boring costumes and generic poses... how does a show that looks so good in pictures keep picking terrible one to accompany their ads?) |

| There are two recordings of Duet for One from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, in which one actress plays two first ladies: outgoing Julia Grant and incoming Lucy( Mrs. Rutherford B) Hayes. June Anderson's version , on White House Cantata, is fine, But the version on a John McGlinn anthology(on Angel/Emi), titled Broadway Showstoppers, is sung/acted by double Tony winner Judy Kaye. It is amazing; She nails every laugh line and you don't have to check the libretto to understand every word. | |
