Lady Gaga.
Mr. Rudin, make it happen.

And she already has a trumpet -- tattooed on her arm :-)

Much as she can be entertaining, she can't act her way out of a wet sack.

try it with a glass of dry sack; you might like it better.

I have a lot of respect for Gaga - she has been getting better with her acting. Be nice.

I have a lot of respect for Gaga, too--doesn't mean she's a good fit for Mame, anymore than I want to see Sir Ian McKellen essay the title role in "Everybody Loves Opal."

LOL. But . . . do you want to see anybody essay the title role in Everybody Loves Opal? I mean, if you could go back in time to see Eileen Heckart or Vivian Vance or Martha Raye or Phyllis Diller in anything, wouldn't that be either at the bottom or at least very low on your list? (I mention those ladies because they all played Opal, which is probably obvious, but maybe not.)

I suppose that it might be kind of neat to see Meryl Streep or Judi Dench play it, just because it would be so bizarre.

I can only imagine how much salary she would want. I know some fools paying $675. each to an up coming concert.

Harvey Fierstein - the only Mame who could sing lower than both Lucille Ball and Beatrice Arthur combined!

I reviewed a production for Florida West Coast July 2015 that starred our local favorite Matthew McGee in the title role. He played it as if he was a woman, in other words more or less straight. I didn't care for it, Mame is not the strongest musical ever written, so a gimmick like that only weakens it further, IMHO.

Maybe Samuel Ramey could come out of retirement to play Vera opposite Fierstein.

Ah, Samuel Ramey! A voice like a lion - wonderful! Mind you, to keep things in proportion, Young Patrick would probably have to start at 30.

Maybe I'm just being a little dense, but what would Vera's age have to do with Patrick's?

Ramey (a genuinely great singer) developed a huge wobble in his last years at the Met. Vera might be a good role for him since he wouldn't have to sustain many notes. :)
