| TV Line is reporting that Laura Benanti is being replaced in her recurring role on Supergirl. “Unfortunately Laura, who Greg [Berlanti] and I have worked with for years going back to Eli Stone, was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in [New York],” says executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. As far as I know, there has been no official announcement from producers of Laura Benanti doing a new show since She Loves Me, and she had her baby recently. But if she's not returning to Supergirl due to "work commitments," she must have a new show lined up that hasn't been announced yet. So...what is it? Bart Sher's My Fair Lady revival for next spring still hasn't announced casting yet... |

| The money she'd make though would help her take care of that baby. A role on a successful TV show is the best job an actor can get. Closest thing to steady work. And you have to milk it for all its worth. Plus, the more episodes you make, the more you make in residuals which is very important passive income for an actor to have. | |

| Why is it fired? She has a brand new baby and probably did not want to take time away from the baby and her home life or take the baby away from its dad and home. It is likely a mutual parting. Remember her mom (with whom she just did a wonderful show at 54 Below) gave up her career to care for her. Although Laura has rejected giving up her career, I am certain there is a good amount of thought as to how much care is needed for a newborn. i would not be surprised to see her back on the boards this season providing she does not have to travel. | |

| ... and thereafter only appeared occasionally in hologram form -- and not at all since the show changed networks -- so I can't imagine it's worth continuing to fly her out to Vancouver. I'd suggest it's a polite parting of the ways rather than a firm NY job commitment. | |

| That's just a nice way of saying they are firing her. Looks better for her for them to say she is busy. This is what always happens. She'll land on her feet. And one would have to be absolutely crazy to leave a TV show to do a Broadway musical even if it's your dream role. | |

| Benanti has said several times that Eliza is her dream role. If there was a role she would leave TV for, that would be it. If I remember correctly, Julie White was supposed to do an arc on Desperate Housewives, but she dropped out to do The Little Dog Laughed on Broadway. Her character was introduced mysteriously in the final moments of one episode and then never seen again. |

| I don't know if she has actually signed for this but she is the first choice to costar opposite Amy Schumer and she may wish to remain in New York with her new baby and her husband even though she would be in rehearsal for a new show. | |
