| Yes--let's sexually appropriate Evan Hansen for the Anastasia crowd. It's a male character, complete with specifics about being a male adolescent , including what it's like for a male not to grow up with a father figure. Sickening idea. | |

| I concur. Gender decidedly plays a role in adolescence and this story is specifically constructed on teenage boy experience, two boys who end up linked. Yes, a fair amount of rewriting would be required and for what? Create a new show. I do believe the cast will continue to be diverse and Evan could be cast with a young man of any ethnicity or national origin. It's not even a "Hamilton" leap, though why not for the others? Evan's biological father is never seen, so why presume he is white? |

| OK, it's not the first time I've had a bad idea, and I'm sure it won't be the last. I'm convinced that Evan Hansen should be a male role. | |
