| I don't usually start a thread, but after seeing today's On Stage, I couldn't resist. This may have been the most embarrassing of the new concept shows. The premise of being on Fire Island in short shorts to interview Jerry Mitchell at his house there was crazy enough. But the most ludicrous segment had Frank dancing with Mitchell to Can't Stop the Beat from Hairspray. I do not know what Frank sees when he looks at the videos of himself, but it surely isn't what the rest of us see, or he would not let them be shown. This week's show clearly proves that On Stage is through with definitive segments, coherent and informative interviewing, and any serious regard for the art of theater. And poor Jerry Mitchell was reduced to acting as Dilella's kooky sidekick in a version of The Housewives of Fire Island. It has truly and sadly become the Frank Dilella show. |
