I actually saw the original staging at the Washington Square Theatre towards the end of the run. I can still visualize those last moments when the stairs came down to the prison cell, so Miguel de Cervantes could be led to his inquisition for his political views. I was very young then...and I was actually crying at the finale...and so emotionally moved to have seen such a story, so beautifully and simply staged! |
