Yes!
The Fosse people have done a very good job of preserving Fosse's genius, whereas Bennet's people aren't being nearly as successful. Though I think that's partly because Fosse had a style that could be easily extracted and placed on new dancers, whereas Bennet's dance is so wedded to the piece and specifically styled on the unique attributes of the virtuosic performance of the actor. Even "A Chorus Line", which is magnificent, struggles to find someone who can perform "The Music and the Mirror" to match Donna... I don't know that anyone ever has. |
