Great Comet Ongoing Quandry

I keep reading all the Chatters and others discuss the reasons behind Oak, Mandy, Kagen, Black, White, Racism etc.
Do all of us theater "insiders" who appreciate live theater as much as we like speculating the whys and why not's, realize that this is a business? Its not about whether you are black or white or asian or green (well- maybe green in regards to Wicked). Its about turning a profit if you're lucky or sustaining sales enough to cover the cost.

Oak was not selling tickets. Thats the bottom line. Why? That's anyone's guess. I'm not here to speculate or point fingers. But Kagen looks at the numbers, see's empty seats and not enough money being deposited and must make a decision. Do I bring in a star.... who may bring life back into the show... or keep a talented person in the role and watch me lose my shirt. It's very simple.

I know Howard Kagen. I was offered to invest in Comet. I turned it down because based on the #'s, I felt that once Groban left, it would be hard to sustain at the box office.
I think that may be true of Bette Midler in "Dolly" comes January 15.
Is Rudin supposed to bring in Beyonce or Diana to be Dolly? (Imagine the stampede to the box office if that happened)

Would everyone be happy if he approached John Legend or Denzel Washington for the role?

Lets be realistic. Groban made a nice fee and did hefty business. Now its time to replace him with a notable "star" or see the numbers go down. You don't have to be a rocket scientist- or a racist rocket scientist, to see the black and white of it all (so to speak!)
