I don't think you're bringing to this what I'm sure is your fuller understanding of how box office works. First of all, the star isn't going to be expected to bring it 1.5 million in sales a week... they are expected to help bring it up from the $ the show might make withOUT a star on its own, which is likely below operating costs or at least without seeing a weekly profit. So that's a big one. Second, sales don't come ONLY because someone is buying a ticket to see that one star. They also come because of press and marketing done because that star is going into it or in the show, or leaving it soon, which exposes to the show's existence and what it is and shows them clips or access or whatever to it -- and if not a first exposure, it can remind people that it exists, that they might have wanted to see it and should, or gives someone a new look at something they were mildly aware of or aware of but had written off perhaps. It also brings in repeat business that might not have repeated (ex: me and some friends have already paid to see it with Groban, but were fully committed to paying to see it again with Mandy). We have no idea how the show would do with no name in it... we know advanced sales are low, but we don't know week to week what might happen. Don't forget this show had 12 Tony noms, had a good performance on the Tonys (especially compared to most this year), and has a lot of acclaim and fans. Obviously it's in a lot of trouble but I think it's unfair to assume it's either basically $0 with no star or $1.5mil with a star.

Of the names I listed mentioned, I think that Alan Cumming, Patrick Wilson, Zachary Levi, JGL, Chris Pine, Jeremy Renner, Sting and Dave Grohl would absolutely make a notable difference.

And as for Sting and Billie Joe examples... it's not a science, and it always has to do with the material. A lot of people just weren't that compelled by The Last Ship as a show, or as something they wanted to pay good money to see. But to see Sting in a show they are interested in can sell tickets. Same with American Idiot. I missed Last Ship because it closes so soon, but I had many chances to see American Idiot and I just didn't want to, it looked like a rock concert done "brrrrroadway style!" and even if it wasn't there were just enough other things or not enough money for me to buy a ticket to find out. And seeing Billie Joe do it wouldn't have changed that.
I'm not saying there's an enormous demand for Great Comet tickets without a star in it... but the show, even with Oak so far, as never had a week in the red. Lots of people, relative to broadway, are interested in this show and paying for it. And even when Groban was in it, enormous star as he is, we cannot assume all sales were made because of him. Some, like mine, were made in spite of him (he won me over). Some were regardless and indifferent to Groban. Some saw it because of him and would go back with the right person.

As I'm sure you know it's a peculiar and often unpredictable alchemy. And I'm not saying I know 100% any of these people would go into the show and have it become Hamilton... I was more making the point that i'm surprised none of those people or similar people have made deals to go into the show, or been rumored to be in talks, or whatever. This is a list of people I could see doing it well or wanting to do it or finding it a great part to make their Broadway debut with, etc etc (I'm just repeating everything I wrote in the post), I wasn't promising they'd keep the show at 1.5 mil a week for another 6+ months guaranteed, no one knows that. And the other point I was making was that there seems to be no one scheduled to go in as Pierre in what? Two weeks? Which is why I bring in names like Esparza, Stokes, and Cerveris who are stage stars with known names and could at least bring theater fans back for another visit to the show for a few weeks.
