I think the NYPD example is a great example of the context and system that should be analyzed every single chance it can be. I don't see that as in any way even similar let alone comparable to the Great Comet situation (outside of the idea that systemic racism effects just about everything in America whether people are actively "racist" or not... but you can't punish the Great Comet producers because of that larger idea), but to some extent it has been treated that way.
I was not able to quite understand your thought that starts "Kinda like..." but I'd like to.
I can also speak as a gay person who isn't a POC, and I understand your point but I don't think that's what's happening here. I fully understand the reason some are looking to this and able to say "this COULD be a result of system racist" and "but WOULD it have happened the same way with a white no-name actor??" These are questions that have become accusations though, with real consequences not just to the white producers but also to the diverse cast and the audiences. But beyond that, what I cannot agree with *at all* is anyone drawing the conclusion that because black actor Oak was let go and white actor Mandy was hired, it is racism. I find that incredibly presumptuous and untrue on many important levels. |
