Bette Midler in Dolly was a rare event on Broadway the likes of which we do not see that often. I have never ever ever in my life considered paying more than even $55 for a balcony seat... but I spent like $115 on a balcony seat for Bette in Dolly, so did the 5 friends I went with. So did a LOT of other people. This is not a show offering discounts, and it is charging and getting much more for every level of seats than most shows can ever pull off. Great Comet has tickets for $59 that are very good seats, technically back of the house but because of the design and staging you can see everything very well and from a perspective worth having just as sitting in the audience seats is a perspective worth having too. Why would I even pay $20 more for slightly more center seats when I can by the $59 ones in advance and make sure I am not too far to the side? And it's a tricky thing because those prices are why I saw the show twice... but also perhaps why it's so hard for them to make a profit. However I do tell anyone I can how much I think they should see it, and I'm sure I sold them at least 4 tickets.
But of course it is easier to recoup when are able to charge considerably more for ALL tickets than any other show except Hamilton can... and also when you have over 200 more seats you can sell every show. |
