Just got back from the Curious Incident ... National Tour's stop at the Ahmanson.
My prior experience with the show was via NT Live. I knew there would be changes in the production (staging, obviously), but I felt like there were a lot of changes in the characterization.
Specifically, several of the supporting roles (most notably the father and Siobhan) came off to me like overdrawn cartoonish versions of the characters I'd seen before. In NT Live, they were complex, human, caring individuals; here they were cardboard cutouts. Or, if I'm going to be true to script, I got the feeling that here, the actors were taking seriously the idea that they were just Christopher's classmates acting out his book, and weren't REALLY the adult characters they were playing.
My question: Am I making this up? Am I misremembering the NT Live production as having a depth that wasn't there? |
