| I can't answer any of those questions, but I do know that the show in the revival was closer to the original workshops. The authors -- especially Lawrence D. Cohen -- and others confirmed. It was far more realistic, and worked much harder on grounding the high school scenes in the reality of a small town in Maine. The Terry Hands approach was wildly different (as we all know by now). When McGovern was on board, it was probably more like the Mazzie interpretation. That's entirely my guess, but having at least heard all of the Margaret Whites (and seen two of them on stage, each twice, Buckley and Mazzie) I believe they chose McGovern for the reasons they ended up with Mazzie. PS: I'm a fan of Buckley's work in "Carrie." Especially "When There's No One." |
