Totally agree. But PBS pledge drive stars are few in number.

I think some folks thought that the massive popularity of HAMILTON would turn the originals into mini-stars the way the cast of RENT was treated as they left for their next shows.

But yes, the only person in that cast who had true STAR quality was Mr. Diggs, who seems very excited to embark on a career writing and producing for television and film.

So there we have it.

I think people are forgetting the plain old marketability of the basics here:

- It's a musical set in RUSSIA. Not exactly a popular place these days.

- It's based on friggin WAR & PEACE. Not exactly a property that thrills out of town tourists or the B&T crowd.

- It's got a really long title that makes you feel like the whole thing is gonna be a little on the dull side.

Josh Groban was good piece of casting for this show. If there's any demo that those aforementioned bullet points appeals to, it's the PBS pledge drive drowd. But unless Jackie Evancho, Charlotte Church, Il Divo, or the cast of "Riverdance" suddenly want to shoehorn themselves into this dog & pony show, I fear it's done for.
