To add to what sirup wrote, Patinkin began the tweet announcing that he was withdrawing, with the statement:
"My understanding of the show’s request that I step into the show is not as it has been portrayed..."
At the time, this was the first public statement to the fact that he had been approached to appear in the show, rather than having asked to be in it.
My understanding is that he withdrew in order to avoid being labeled as someone who took a role from a fellow actor in a capricious and selfish manner.
Perhaps if the Kagans had led with their need to save the box office, this would have played out differently... |
