I think the most interesting thing this show *could* give us (not sure yet if it does or not) is a full impression of his entire career, to show people not only the incredible amount he brought to the modern musical theater but also tracking his career through his choices... and what made Hal Prince Hal Prince. I would want to see iconic staging of his recreated and projections of sets that brought his directorial visions to life, maybe even songs performed in front of projections of the original sets to give the visual understanding..., and I'd want to see a song from the shows, even if there wasn't iconic staging associated with it, that sums up (to him) why he wanted to direct the show and what inspired the vision he had for it as a director.
But that would entail discussing the shows, what he saw in them and brought to them, and doing a number from each of the shows he directed and at least the major shows he produced, which would be like 30 songs if each got just 1 song... and I'd think I'd like to see it go in chronological order, to see the evolution of his career and of the modern musical theater together.
This is the show I'd like to see... a revue that paints a detailed picture of Prince's career and his contribution through see something from every show he brought us. |
